Posting to WSSv3 Blog Via Metaweblog API

Asked By: Roxanne    Date: May 19    Category: MOSS    Views: 1539

I have read in a few places that SharePoint 2007 blogs support the
Metaweblog API, which means that desktop clients which also support that API
should be able to add and edit posts. According to what I've read, that's
the mechanism used by Word 2007.

I have had absolutely no success with various desktop clients in accessing a
WSSv3 blog via Metaweblog. I am using the following URL for the post:

host.domain/.../metaweblog.aspx

If I use that URL in the browser, I get an error message from the server:

"The metaweblog.aspx page is used by SharePoint compatible blogging
applications."

This is reasonable, since the aspx page is expecting XML-RPC, not a plain
old HTTP request.

However, every blogging client I have used gives me authentication errors
when I use the same URL. I have tried both DOMAIN/userid and plain userid
with exactly the same result.

How can I move this ahead?
