Portal Template

Asked By: Krista    Date: Jul 12    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 472

Can we save a portal (created using share point portal server 2003) as a Template, so that we can create a new portal using that template.

The same as we can do with Sites in WSS or SPS.

This a one time thing or do you need to do this multiple times?

One way would be to backup the existing portal, restore it somewhere else and make changes and edits from there. I don’t know if there will be any portal  property conflicts. A SharePoint infrastructure person could answer that.

Are you trying to duplicate the content? The area setup? The permissions?

The easiest way to accomplish this template  idea is through the Site Definitions like Karstan mentioned.

If you want to backup the site using the Portal backup utilities, more power to you, but just remember that you'll have to have a separate database instance running when you restore them, else they write over the names of your databases, or have problems writing them.
