New to Portal Server

I have had SPS installed for almost a year and it is working great, but
management
wants the functionality of portal. So I have installed a portal server
(separate from the
current sps server). But none of the sites created on this new portal server
have any
of the functions of portal. I followed the guide to install it and create the
first portal
site. Am I missing an important step?

If you installed  a new portal  on the same server  it
should be just a standard blend not a problem.

If there is a problem...delete this portal that you
installed...via the sharepoint administration it will
also get rid of the database.

Rebuilt or reinstall the portal and try making a new
portal again...sounds like after a year  something as
gone south. refresh the system as I have indicated.
