Portal Displays Incorrectly

Asked By: Jagdish    Date: Mar 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 830

I reinstalled my Sharepoint server and I'm getting symptoms as described
on the link below. I want SP just to run on an intranet. The resolution
for this problem wants you to modify IE. Is there a better resolution
than this? Is there a proxycfg command to use? The odd thing is my
previous installation of SP, I did not run into this problem.

That Q article only references making the change to the IE browser on the
server, then using proxycfg -u to migrate those changes to the proxycfg portion
of the registry. Is that still something you are trying to avoid? You could
accomplish the same thing  by making the change in the browser and then applying
the same changed with proxycfg. the -u just makes it faster.

Yes I'm trying to avoid that because I would have to change IE settings
on several workstations in my office and also remote users. Is there
anything I can change from the server  only?

That is what I am saying. If I am reading that Q article correctly, it only
wants you to change the server... not the workstations as well.

I tried the article Q304877, I'm still getting the same problem  as the
article describes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled SP and recreated my
workspace, but same problem. All I want is for SP to work in a intranet
environment using a URL http://glbcsrv3/workspace. Any ideas on the
problem?

I would look at how IIS is configured. If the security is set too high for the
virtual directory, you will get prompted by a challenge box. Some other
things...

1. On the Virtual directory tab, what is "Application Protection" set to?
2. In Authentication methods, is Anonymous checked as well as Integrated Windows
Authentication
3. What is listed as the "Custom HTTP Header"?

Am working on SPS 2001 with Service Pack 1 and have created 3 workspaces on the
same server.

These days am facing this regular problem  of incorrect display of portal:

1. Category webpart displays  "none"
2. Other webparts contain things like
Portal
System
Categories
Documents
Dashboards

I have gone thru the MS knowledge base article 304877, and tried resolving the
issue as mentioned in the article, but is not helping me to solve the problem.
Everytime I have to flush the cache from Management dashboard. But the problem
persists.

Why is it happening and how can we resolve this?
