Portal 2003 Searching for "Search"

I found a magic word that breaks our search engine in Portal 2003.
Perfoming a search for the word search brings back results as broken
links.

for instance:
http://dev1/sites/services/sharepoint/portal-navigation-areas-<span%
20class='ms-HoverCellActive'>search</span>es.ppt

as you can see the SPAN tag is the culprit that makes this url broken.

Anyone notice this, verify this, fix this?

Do you have SP2 installed? It fiixes several known search / / language bugs.
