permissions on SPS 2001

Has anybody encountered the following problem

When copying a single or a set of files to any directory on sharepoint form the local computer (logged in as a network user that has author permissions on the folder in question on sharepoint)

The user sometimes receives the error below, he then tries to copy again right away and it works!!!

We are also encountering this same problem. We think it is related to a Microsoft security patch that was applied and have an open ticket with Microsoft support on this issue. A work around to copy multiple files is to put them into a folder then copy the folder into SharePoint then in SharePoint you can then move the files to the appropriate directory.
