Permissions of A Contributor-- prevent deletions

Asked By: Jerry Ellis         Date: Feb 17, 2004      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 437

I have a site (Sharepoint 2003) which has many contributors-- so they
all can add documents to the Shared Documents doc lib.

My problem is --- they can also delete each others documents!--- what
switches to I throw to prevent Harry from deleting Sue's documents???

Thanks very much

This functionality is not available in SPS 2003 or WSS. If a person has
access to modify files, then s/he can delete them. There is no more
granular level of control than this in WSS. :-(

A related question: with many contributors, people often upload the same
document to a number of different sites. Is there a way to permit only
one document for each unique document name? Also, is there a way to put
a document link (instead of the actual document) in "Site A" that would
actually open the original document in "Site B"?

Ideas and suggested approaches would be appreciated.

I need to disagree with you. With SPS 2003, administrator can restrict users to delete document or list items within an area. For WSS, there is not this kind of granularity for SPS 2003 it is possible
