Permission to search?

We have a test server set up with a web app with the following structure:

Home (top level site)
- Search (Search Center Site)
- Beta Test (a sub-site)

I have about 12 users who are a part of the BETA TEST OWNERS SP group.
For the HOME VISITORS SP group, I have added 'ourdomain\domain users'

The problem: Any of the people using the Beta Test site (or any
subsite underneath) will get an error if they try to use search to



List does not exist

Which I assume is a permissions issue. If I go to SEARCH CENTER and
click on the site permissions, it's just inheriting from the HOME
top-level site (which makes sense).

What, exactly, is the issue here? Do people need MORE than 'read'
access to search center to actually search? What permissions do they
specifically need?

It seems I had the same issue, and it is indeed permissions, to see

Well, can't seem to find the answer in the archives. Anyone have an
idea as to what's going on here with search  permissions?
