People Search Box

Asked By: Bhavani    Date: Feb 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1222

I have added a people search box on my site. If i search for myself and
a co-worker the search finds us.We both are admins on the server and in
sharepoint. I have several other users in my sharepoint site, but the
people search does not find them. Does anyone have any ideas.

How basically does the people search work: In the drop down you have 3

All site
the current site you are on
People -- where does this acutally search.

People search  works off of your SharePoint user profiles. You need to import
your users  from your AD into SharePoint and then start a crawl of your profiles.
By default, the profiles are part of the local SharePoint Sites content source,
so after doing your import simply starting another search crawl should find  and
add these to your results.

in shared services administration, there is a scope for people. for this to work
you need to:

1. Do a user profile import. This will import user profiles into the the profile
store located in your My Sites Host site  collection (usually in the root of the
My Sites Web application, but not always - like http://mysiteswebbapp/)

2. Crawl the profile store using the sps3:// protocol handler. using the above
example, you should have a content source defined as hsps3://mysiteswebapp

then, people  search will work. you can also access people search  from advanced
search, under the People tab.
