overwrite files

Asked By: Conrad    Date: Dec 15    Category: MOSS    Views: 1317

I have a situation where a user wants to have an email sent to several
exchange mailboxes that are then forwarded to one email enabled document
library. From this document library, the email will be moved to another
document library with versioning turned on. Problem is, the user wants
to be able to overwrite the current documents in the document library
which is currently a pdf file (not an email file). The reason to
overwrite is to use versioning as an auditing method and to track
changes. These are / will be product specifications.

Another issue we are facing is that the same user wants to update the
current version to its proper content then check it in. We then want to
make sure all the versions are set at 1.0 (currently they range from 1.0
to 4.0). Is there any way this can be done programmatically.

I'm not sure about the overwriting, but I can tell you that versioning is
handled by the system internally and short of hacking the database there is
no way to control the version number that is assigned. That's one of those
things mandated by Sox compliance. If you can edit the version number
programmatically then you can alter an audit trail. It can't be done even
with custom code.

To tag on to what Paul is saying. If you need to get all the docs to version 1,
create a new library and copy the information to your new library. There they
will all be #1.

Thank you both so much. I didn't think to just copy them to new document

Is this the same as deleting them and then re-adding them to the same DocLib?
Must you use a new DocLib?
