Outlook SharePoint Lists and Alerts

Asked By: Trenton Hubbard         Date: Jun 25, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 209

I have a user that set up Outlook to subscribe to a Sharepoint list and
when he was cleaning up Outlook by deleting items from the SharePoint
List someone informed him that he was causing SharePoint to send out
messages to people subscribed to the same list.

Are the SharePoint list items in Outlook just a local copy? Why would
deleting messages from Outlook cause sharepoint to send messages?

If the user  used <Actions>... <Connect to Outlook> to "subscribe", then
that user is actually deleting  items in the list  itself, which is why
users would receive alerts  about items  being deleted.

If the user used <Actions>...<View RSS Feed>, then, yes, they are only
viewing a copy  of the sharepoint  list.

So, it sounds like in this situation, the user possibly connected the
sharepoint list to his Outlook.
