Ordering/grouping News Listings

I noticed that you can order and group News Items in the News Area. I
created two sub areas called Internal and External News. But when you
view the default.aspx it doesn't seem to follow any rhyme or reason.
If I go to Portal Listings and put them into groups (other than
General, Expert, Highlight) it doesn't follow the ordering and
grouping when I go out and view the page. Since all of my customers
are going ot be looking at the InternalNews/default.aspx I need this
to be able to be ordered. As it is it seems like whatever gets added
last goes on top. It would be really useful if I could put them in
groups like: This Week, This Month, and Upcoming. And then then those
groups would display in that order.

I should have noted this is the Area Detail Web Part and uses the News
Area template.
