What does your calculated column look like?

Is the month  in the calculated field  by month number or name?

Did you use your calculated column both for a Sort entry and a Group entry?
You need to do both to get it to sort correctly.

ok that worked except it worked for the number values. i did the calc  to return
=TEXT(Date,"MMMM") date type.
for a field  called month  sorted and grouped and still no go.
if i =TEXT(Date,"M") it retuens number values eg 1 for jan 4 for april
i do as you say group  and sort by monthcalnum and is does the sort.
but i can't mix and match ie sort byt monthcalnum and group by the month
(Jan,Feb etc)

That is by design. To group  items they must be sorted in the same order  as
the groups. Otherwise items are not together to be grouped.

What I've done to get around this is to create a calculated column
called Month Beginning On. The calculation is something like =Date -
Day(Date) + 1. So if Date is April 18, 2007, then the calculated field
would have the value April 1, 2007. Make sure the calculated field  is
stored as date and not text. I think then you would be able to do the
group by.

Could you use a formula like this:

=CONCATENATE(TEXT(MONTH([Start Date]),"00")," (",TEXT([Start

The result would look like: 01 (January) , 02 (February), ...
