Optimization-how speed up SharePoint Portal Server?

Asked By: Martina    Date: Dec 10    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 965

We have SharePoint running on a dual processor Dell
server. We have tons of disk space, 2 1 ghz CPU's and
1 GB of memory. Nothing else runs on that machine.

We have a second server running SQL 2000 with the same
configuration.

We find it takes a long time to load pages (on same
floor where the servers) using SharePoint. As for
users we are just developers testing it.

What can be done to speed things up? I know there is
an optimization paper Microsoft wrote but not sure if
that has anything useful in it.

Just to navigate from one tab we created to another
takes time. We have hardly any content at this point.

Perhaps this is an inherent problem with the product
for Version 1.

Any ideas?

That should fly! On my 800MHz single CPU machine  with 256MB RAM, it's
fast, no problem. Are you sure the correct drivers for your disks are
loaded? "Tons of disk space" could waste a lot of time if somehow setup
incorrectly... just a shot in the dark, but maybe?

It's always a good idea to read these fully if you want to understand
the thinking behind the product as well as details of it's internals.
