"Open in Web Folder" Web Part anyone?

Asked By: Margarita Harrington         Date: Jan 23, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 293

When demo-ing SPS to our bosses, my team had this web part
installed. Now we can't find it anywhere. :(

From the document library we were able to click a link in the
Subscribe|Add Sub-Folder|Add Document menu. When it was installed it
sat next to "Add Document." One of our senior writers really liked
this capability so we want to make it available to the team.

Any ideas?

Also, my favorites list was blown away recently. Anyone know of some
good sites for web parts (preferably free - as in beer)? Our site is
using SPS, but our clients are all on NT4 workstations with Office2K
so we're kind of limited (in some respects) on the amounts/types of
part we can use.

Check www.sharepointcode.com for some free  webparts.

Open in web  Folder is part  of the standard SPS SP1 product...could it be
you are accessing an non-SP1 server?

The "Open in web  Folder" is functionality that is updated to workspaces
created following the installation of SP1

I found the resolution in the SP1 readme file.

"Web part  Modification: Opening a Web folder  in Windows Explorer from the
Dashboard Site
In the previous release of SharePoint Portal Server, users who wanted to
open a document  for editing from the dashboard site  were required to locate
the document separately using Web folders and open  it there.

SharePoint Portal Server SP 1 modifies the summary Web Part in the dashboard
site to allow users to open the Web folder for a document directly from the
dashboard site, avoiding the need to find  the specific location of the
document.

After installing the service pack, SharePoint Portal Server adds an "Open in
Web Folder" link  to the Folder Information Web Part at the top of the home
page of the dashboard site. The link is displayed right next to "Add a
Document" as one of the available options. You must still install the client
components for SharePoint Portal Server."

This section of SP1 only occurs to workspaces created after installation.
It does not modify this segment on existing workspaces.
