OOTB functionality

Asked By: Bryon    Date: Jul 29    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1362

I have been around the block a lot, from the earliest versions of
Oracle and the original HP-UX box, through the SQL Server and powerbuilder
phase, on to the VBA for applications world, and now the .net/sharepoint
world. Heck I cut my teeth on a Wang 50 then a TRS-80.

I must say, I am quite frustrated with sharepoint. It is pretty darned
basic in its OOTB functionality and massively hard to work with

A friend once defined a kludge as a collection of ill fitting parts that
make a distressing whole. That seems to apply here to sharepoint.

Soapbox speach over, I am back to work, yes, more on sharepoint

My frustration is there every hour of every day. I always stumble over something new that can’t be done (right now the AddFieldFromXml method doesn’t seem to let me set the internal name of the field).

Take it with a grain of salt. It’s a very powerful tool but you have to yield it for what it was designed for. It’s not a data entry tool. It’s not a database. It’s a collaboration platform and given that, you can combine it with other tools for better overall solutions (InfoPath for data entry, BizTalk for workflow, etc.)
