OOTB Discussion Board

Asked By: Tara    Date: Jan 31    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1679

Is there a way to modify OOTB discussion board Threaded view in SPS. OOTB there are four columns Subject, Replies, Posted By Modified. Using Modify settings and columns I added another choice field Status with values Open, Close and add to default view. Is there a way to modify Threaded View and make that column available.

Both Serge van den Oever [Macaw]
(weblogs.asp.net/.../385523.aspx) and more
recently Bil Simser
(weblogs.asp.net/.../434857.aspx) have
done some creative things to make them better.

The link you set for Macaw and Bil threw an error. Possibly due to the ( ) :) This link works weblogs.asp.net/.../385523.aspx Macaw

weblogs.asp.net/.../434857.aspx Bil

I have been using the Macaw Discussion board  for quite some time and the company I am consulting at right now swears by it.

I have not had the chance to test Mr. Simsers as of yet but the screenshots look very interesting.

Odd, these tiny URLs should also do the trick:
Macaw: http://tinyurl.com/78gyq
Simser: http://tinyurl.com/9vvyv

Note that Serge's solution is a modification of the default discussion  board
and just involves adding a new template. My solution (not available yet) is
a full replacement web part driven by several (hidden) lists behind the
scenes.

I already used Serge's solution, and I found out Serge's discussion  .stp file was only for WSS not for Portal but after some modifications to the template I was able to use it for Portal too.

My original question was how to add  a new column  in the default threaded  view. I added  a column Status to the discussion board  and added to the default(Threaded view) but it doesn't show up in threaded view.

The fields in the threaded  view are hard coded.
