OnValueChanged for SharePount:FormField not working

I'm editing a custom version of an addnew form for a List, and in SharePoint Designer (2007 SP2) i'm seeing that there is the event OnValueChanged , if i write an javascript function this function appears in the intellisense list for the OnValueChanged: but the function at runtime is not called.
Someone could explain this problem ?
