Office integration with MySite

When MySite is set to connect with the portal by its fully registered
domain name then the "Set as Office default website" link is not
available. However, when MySite is set to connect to the portal by
its netBIOS name then the link is present. Is there anyway to make
this link available when connected by fully registered domain name?
