Office document (on sharepoint server) not overwritable, and it's not the permissions

We use MOSS 2007 as a document repository for collaboration.

Most users have no trouble opening, editing and saving Microsoft Office documents within document libraries. However, two of our users cannot overwrite files on the server. Whenever they open a document for editing, the document is opened in write protected mode. Overwriting the original document when sdaving doesn't work.

The users can create new documents in the same document library.

I checked all permissions, that's not the problem obviously. There are no file basesd permissions. The user accounts reside in our Active Directory. We use Office 2007.

Does anybody know that problem?

Please try to run Microsoft Office Diagnostics to in case this is caused by Office Client.

To start the Microsoft Office Diagnostics program in Excel 2007, follow these steps:

1. Click the Office button.
2. Click the Excel Options button.
3. Click Resources.
4. Click the Diagnose button.
5. Click Continue, and then click Run Diagnostics.

If this cannot solve your issue, could you please verify whether the two users have the same issue when logged on other machines?
