Office 2007 File Types

Asked By: Bhavani Chag         Date: Mar 18, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 231

We currently have a farm with three web front ends, there is a
discrepancy between the recognized files between them. The unusual
thing is the file types we are having problems with is office 2007,
basically any of the extensions that end with x (i.e docx xlsx etc).
These should be automatically recognized files types by MOSS. We have
one WFE that recognizes the files without any problems the other two do
not. We have tried installing the filter pack with no changes noticed,
any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I would do would be to compare the DOCICON.xml file  in
the 12/template/xml directory of the 12 hive on all three WFEs. This
file controls the icon shown next to file types, but also is used to
specify which files can be opened automatically from SharePoint. they
should be the same on all 3 WFEs and should include extensions for docx,
etc.
