Office 2007 Documents on SharePoint 2003

Asked By: Kayla    Date: Oct 27    Category: MOSS    Views: 1259

Anyone know how to get SahrePoint 2003 to recognize Office 2007 documents. We
are in the middle of transitioning to office 2007 but our portal is 2003. If we
save Office 2007 documents in the older format they can be opened from the
portal. but the portal doesn' handle docx, xlsx, or pptx files correctly.

Any ideas?

You need to add the Office 2007 extensions to the DOCICON.XML file in the 12
hive under Template/XML.

After I sent the msg I remembered the pdf icon and modified the
DOCICON.XML file and now 'Edit with Microsoft..' shows up in the drop-down menu
for each type.

Make sure you add them to IIS as well....

You may need to add a MIME type for them in IIS as well. I had problems
in 2007 with IE trying to open them as .ZIP files before I made some
changes in IIS.
