Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Asked By: Sanchay    Date: Oct 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1210

I have installed Sharepoint and all seems working fine. After two days of
installation i am getting a problem.

When ever i hit Manage Content link on the home page i get the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. If i hit Manage portal
site I get the following error: Category Not Found

I installed VS.Net Trial Version but I removed it still no benefit. Any thougts!
Do I need to install any additional Service packs...

When you say you installed  VS.Net trial  version, do you mean 2005?

If so, chances are your having problems with ASP.Net 2.0, since WSS doesn't support it out of the box. There are a few sites that have some instructions on getting it to work and co-exist with ASP.Net 2.0.

I would call PSS to resolve this. That is such a general area, that it really doesn’t help.
