"Object picker cannot open because it cannot determine

Asked By: Geoffrey    Date: Feb 27    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1111

I am in the spscoords group which has coordinator security at the
different workspace levels within Sharepoint Portal Server
Administration. When I try to view security on any and all folders
beneath a workspace, I receive the following pop up error:

Application Error: An error has occurred (0x80004005). Unspecified

When I try to update security from my desktop, I get:

Object Picker cannot open because it cannot determine whether
sharepoint.blank.com is joined to a domain.

Of course, when I'm logged on as administrator everything works
swimmingly. What could this be?

This is in response and in addition to the email below.

Many of my coordinators get this error  when trying to view security  via
windows explorer. They cannot see security. These users have created
network places using the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name), for example,
http://dalportal.celanese.com/Finance. If I have the users set up their
network place using the server name only, for example,
http://dalportal2/Finance, the error goes away and users can view  security.

Is there another way around this? I don't want to confuse the users since
my actual server name is slightly different from the FQDN. Any ideas?

We've gotten rid of FQDN. Not a solution, by any means but we haven't
figured it out yet.
