" NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" causing problems

Asked By: Samir    Date: Oct 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 5310

I have SPS 2003 (SP1)

Scenario is:

My org. has almost 500 employees entered in our Active directory

I gave the "NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users " group READER Access on all
team sites, so that all authenticated ppl can atleast view various team
sites (that was our company policy). The actual ppl in that team then our
added via the team site interface to that site with appropriate rights
(contributor etc)

Now the problem:

We got 20 users who don't have AD accounts and they should only view 1 TEAM
SITE i.e there owns.

Hence I created 20 local users and gave them rights on that particular site.
Now the problem is that any guy may figure out the URLS syntax (/sites/xxx)
and browse to any other team site & since "NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users
" group is added there.some how they too get authenticated and are able to
view that team site. but as readers.. My objective is that they should not
be able to view the team site they should be refused entry.rather then
opening the team site with reader access.

I hope I have being able to explain the problem properly.

Any help suggestions will gr8ly be appreciated.

In this case, you should replace "NT Authority\Authenticated Users" with
"DOMAINNAME\Domain Users" for each of your AD domains.

I think you might have misunderstood my reply - "Domain Users" is an AD group
that is created by default on all AD domains and generally contains all users  in
the domain. You shouldn't need to use multiple groups per domain unless your
administrator has deleted this group or setup AD in a non-standard way...
