not getting a selected value when an item is created in custom list

I have created a custom list and i have customized the NewForm.aspx in
share point designer 2007 and deleted the existing dropdownlist field
from the list and added a sharepoint dropdownlist and populated the
dropdownlist with data from sqlserver and saved this page with new
name and attached it to the customlist NewForm.aspx but when iam
creating a new item iam not the getting value i have selected in
dropdownlist which i have populated with database value.
