Could not find user with corresponding SID in the domain

Asked By: Willis    Date: Feb 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2444

Hello,

We just ran into this recently, I'll do everything I can to explain
it in a meaningful way. By the way we're only seeing this in
SPS2003 so far, no issues with WSS2003 yet but it could apply there
as well.

Recently there have been a few employees that had gotten married and
their names had changed. An advanced SharePoint user from one of
our departments was trying to elevate one of these employees'
permissions in an area so that she would be able to edit list items,
documents in document libraries, etc. When she went in to make
these permissions changes and then click "OK," this error showed up -

"Could not find user with corresponding SID in the domain. Check
the spelling of the account name and try again."

Here are some things I have noticed while investigating this
particular issue:

1. The account name in the profile database reflects the name
change (ex - let's say the old account name is "DOMAIN\MSmith" but
now shows "DOMAIN\MJohnson" as it should), but in certain areas of
the portal in the User Information column it still shows
DOMAIN\MSmith.

2. The same can be said for the user's email address as well,
showing MSmith in certain places but showing MJohnson in other
places.

3. The display name for documents/list items entered or modified by
this person shows the new name everywhere (I think), we'll call her
Mary Johnson...but if you click on the link for her display name,
you don't see her public My Site - instead, you see the User
Information page.

Does anyone have any leads on this kind of observation/problem? Any
help at all would be appreciated.
