No duplicate data

Asked By: Kayla    Date: May 15    Category: MOSS    Views: 732

Does anyone out there know if there is an OOTB way to disallow
duplicate records in a Doc Lib based on certain fields? For example,
say that a project team wants to store all of their customer
correspondence in a Doc Lib and these documents are serialized. So,
"From-To-1234" would be one record, "From-To-4321" would be another,
etc., etc. I would like to figure out a way so that another record
with the values "From-To-1234" COULD NOT be loaded in to that Doc Lib.

Any ideas on this?

There is no way to do this out of the box. But if you knew which fields
identified a duplicate  record you could easily write an Event Handler
that would intercept the creation of a duplicate and cancel it with an
error message.
