No children of WebPartZone allowed.

Asked By: Willis    Date: Aug 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 712

We have a production environment with several daily
used sites.
For these sites and new ones we have developed a web
part for better
searches. We want this new web part to be available on
all site homepages
(default.aspx). For new future sites I have managed to
add this using
onet.xml. But for the existing sites I haven't found a
solution.

I tried to add it by customizing the default.aspx page
using Visual Studio.
I managed to display it outside the WebPartZone, but
then I cannot open the
toolpane (or other web part functionality). When I
enclosed it in the
WebPartZone I got the message "No children of
WebPartZone allowed".

Is there a way to automatically add the web part
throughout to all the sites?
I hope I don't have to do it manually, since there are
many sites....
I am in a fix..........

You will have to write a custom application that crawls each site
collection and adds the Web Part programmatically to the Web Zone on the
default.aspx page of each site. I don't have any code to share but it
shouldn't be very difficult to write.
