Newbe question

Asked By: Marcella    Date: Aug 02    Category: MOSS    Views: 517

I have been tasked with setup of SharePoint 2007 for my company. I
have zero experience with SharePoint. Does SharePoint 2007 extend the
AD Schema like Exchange? The reason I'm asking this question is b/c I
would like to setup and test SharePoint in my production environment to
see how it interacts with Exchange, File Servers, Internal Websites,
and AD.

I would rather now build a complex test environment with AD, Exchange,
and such. However if it does extend the schema then I would rather go
the test environment route.

Sharepoint doesn't make any changes to the schema at
all. If you're installing MOSS 2007, one of the steps
you will perform is the user profile import. This
references AD (or another directory structure) for
user data and creates user profiles based upon this

No, it does not extend the AD schema and in most cases is read-only,
using an import model to gather user profile information for its own
