.Net Development for sharepoint 2007

Experts, Could some one let me know how I can reference
microsoft.sharepoint dll in vs 2005 to develop code to read list from
sharepoint? I have a XP machine and cant install sharepoint on my
machine. Sharepoint is installed in a seperate server.

You can extract all the dlls in the GAC into a temp folder and reference them
from your VS IDE

C:\WINDOWS\assembly>xcopy GAC c:\temp /E

You want to write an event on a list you can just build the event and register
that in the server where share point is running,

I tried that, at the first sight it seemed to work--intellisence
was available and everything looked ok until i tried to compile it, at that time
it started giving some wierd errors.

by the way, I decided to use web services provided be sharepoint.

When using the sharepoint  object model (with sharepoint dll’s), you can only
execute it from the server itself. If you want to access sharepoint from
another machine than the server, you have to use webservices. Thus, your
choice is the correct one
