Navigation based on permissions

Asked By: Patrick    Date: Aug 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1804

I have a sharepoint portal with 5 sites, that were created via STSADM
(http://myserver/sites/sitename), and are contained in their own content DB. I
am trying to setup the navigation on the top level, so that only users with
permissions to the site can see the link. I am sure this can be done, but I
can't seem to get the right combination of settings to make it happen.

If each of these sites  is in their own database then they are site  Collections
and each Site Collection is its own permission boundary. They don't share. You
could create your links and use audiences to hide them based  on group membership
etc. While this isn't security, it does provide a level  of obscurity.
