MySite templates and web parts

Asked By: Jill    Date: Oct 08    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1047

Those of you who maintain or design SharePoint implementations, I was
wondering if anyone had some suggestions of web parts that worked well
on people's MySites? I ask as the MyAlerts and MyLinks webparts only
work for SPS content and the majority of our content is in WSS. Also,
the exchange webparts have various limitations so in our
implementation we are likely to just display a link to a new browser
window which opens Outlook Web Access. Since we cannot add the
MyShared or MyPrivate document library's as web parts then the MySite
area is looking pretty bare at the moment.

I hope that makes sense, if anyone knows of any really useful web
parts that work well in this area I would be keen to hear about it.
Also, if any of the above is factually wrong (ie. I can configure
MYAlerts to show WSS content or something).

I agree that often My Sites do look bare. But the idea is the user uses the site to organize their personal information, such as tasks, files and links.

The My Links web  part is not restricted to SPS Portal content. I would suggest adding that back in. I would also suggest adding Tasks, and if you have links or info you want to push down to everyone, you could include that in a web part. Depending on individual user adoption, you will see some sites that have a lot of info, and others with little at all.
