It will depend on how you wish to implement.

Do you wish to propagate the indexes onto a dedicated Search server?
What type of integration do you wish between the two SPS servers?
What functionality are you planning  on using?
- Just document-management and search
- Portal also?

Do you wish to integrate certain back-end apps onto the Portal?

So, I guess the main question back to you is..... what do you wanna do?

Give us some additional information and we'll take it from there.

What I would like to do is have one server  in NJ with document
management, search and Protal and second one in India. I would also
like both to synch so that way it doesn't take long long time for
users to check out files.

We also have StarTeam and DOORS, I want SharePoint to crawl those
sites for documents also.

I hope somebody has done this and their experiance with it.

We have deployed Sharepoint in Edinburgh (UK), the Hague (Holland) and
Chennai (India) You need to make sure that the way in which permissions for
files on the different networks are set up in the same way. You also face
the issue of how long it will take you to download of file between the two
