Multiple Query Servers pointing to the same Index Server File Location

Asked By: Shasta    Date: Apr 12    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1492

What happens when you have multiple Query Servers pointing to the same
Index Server File Location (file share) for index propagation?

Does the files gets overwritten if it's the same file or does it grow
by the X number of Query Servers pointing to that same file location
(file share)?

The index  file is propagated to the query  servers. Each Query server
will have a local copy of the index file, so no matter how many query
servers there are there is only one Index file. It is just propagated
to multiple  locations from a single source. The process of propagation
is different depending on whether you are in SPS 2003 or SharePoint
2007. In 2003 the whole file  gets propagated on a scheduled basis. In
2007 changes are propagated to each server  and the Query server merges
the changes into its Index file. The 2007 model means more work for the
Query servers, but also much smaller propagation packages and therefore
more reliable propagation.
