Multiple Content Databases For A Virtual Server

Asked By: Howard Leonard         Date: Sep 06, 2004      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 160

I guess I have been holding back a lot of questions.... sorry about
the flood!

Why and when would I want to use multiple content databases for a
site collection? I am looking at the following page: "Manage
Content Databases" and I see that I can add multiple databases for
this virtual server. Does that mean that it will use multiples? I
am just trying to figure when I may need to do this.

You will potentially use multiple  databases to horizontally partition
your data, potentially even on different database servers. You might do
this for security reasons, for capacity/scalability reasons, for back-up
restore reasons, etc.
