Multiple Authenications in MOSS w/ Office Docs?

Asked By: Marilyn    Date: Nov 25    Category: MOSS    Views: 808

In SPS2003 if you are using basic authentication you can get prompted every time
you attempt to open an Office document.

I'd like to know if there is a way to prevent this from happening in MOSS 2007 /
Office 2003 (or 2007)?

I plan on using SSL / Basic Authentication.

Follow-up:

Can I use Kerberos authentication if the users are all domain users with a MOSS
server on the internet?

(So some clients connecting to it are not members of the domain...)

With SSL and Basic, I do not know a way. With SSL and NTLM, the client
will cache the password whether the machine is a member of the domain or
not. Be sure the SharePoint Server 2007 URL is in an IE zone with
automatic logon enabled.

Kerberos is not my strong suit, but some here know it well. I think
Kerberos authentication  will require the remote machines be a member of
the domain. Err... I have seen a smartcard/Kerberos implementation not
require this, but I do not know the details of how it was implemented.
Maybe layer 7 VPN?
