MSS.log Corrupted

Asked By: Blair    Date: Aug 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2216

We have a two front-end servers with load balancing. Both servers
are running Windows 2003 SP1. Recently when I navigate to Site
Settings (SPS) I receive "File Not Found.". I also have received
calls where end-users are unable to access sites (WSS) "Error:
Cannot complete this action.". The second front-end has many errors
within the Event Viewer > Application Log. Below is an example:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ESE
Event Category: Logging/Recovery
Event ID: 465
Date: 7/5/2005
Time: 9:10:26 AM
User: N/A
Computer: <OurSharePointFrontend2>
Description:
c243bc20-77b7-46ea-9ce0-488657a28d9d (2748) c243bc20-77b7-46ea-9ce0-
488657a28d9d: Corruption was detected during soft recovery in
logfile D:\SharePoint Portal Server\DATA\c243bc20-77b7-46ea-9ce0-
488657a28d9d\MSS.log. The failing checksum record is located at
position 8870:266. Data not matching the log-file fill pattern first
appeared in sector 8884. This logfile has been damaged and is
unusable.

The Event Viewer of the second front-end also reports that the
MSSearch service is being stopped and restarted, the Database
recovery/restore failed with unexpected error -501, and the content
index server cannot update or access information because of a
database error.

If someone could point me in the right direction when it come to
tackling this issue I would greatly appreciated it!
