Moving databases

Asked By: Angelique Ayala         Date: Mar 19, 2008      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 141

There are several articles on moving databases from one server to
another by doing a backup, uninstall, reinstall and restore. However,
that is real clunky and doesn't preserve settings!
I want to move my SharePoint databases from SQL 2005 server B to SQL
server B. According to the Microsoft article: "Using SQL Server
Database Mirroring with Office SharePoint Server and Windows SharePoint
Services" the first thing I do to accomplish the config db move is to
execute the command: stsadm.exe -o renameserver -oldservername
<OldPrincipalServer> -newservername <NewPrincipalServer>. However
after doing this and rebooting the server I was no longer able to
attach to config DB! Any suggestions?
