Moved SPS

Asked By: Pamela    Date: Aug 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 507

I moved SPS to another server using the SPS backup and restore
The old server was shut down and the new server has the same name,
IP, and folder structure as the old.

Everything seemed to be fine until one user tried to open the
Documents folder tab and got this message:
"Script execution error..error executing invoke querry"

I think I've traced this to the new servers IIS.

Can I take a backup of the IIS metadata from the old server
and restore it to the new server seeing that they both
have the same name?
Is there a correct way to move SPS to another machine including
IIS structure?
Is there anything else I can do?

Normally, what you would do is:

1. Build the new server  (NewServer1) with the same drives and paths.
Same server name  is not necessary but I do it if I am able.
2. Configure NewServer1 the way you want it. Create the same workspace
names in the empty SPS install so that IIS virtual directories are
configured the same on both servers.
4. Run MSDMBACK /B on OldServer1
5. Run MSDMBACK /R on NewServer1.

Did you make a backup  of the empty SPS install on NewServer1 before you
did the restore? If you did, I would restore  that back, create the
matching workspaces from the old production machine, then restore the
production data back.

If you are too far along to backtrack, you could try an IIS metadata
backup and restore. That could work as well.

I solved the problem by deleting the IIS admin web site.
MS said it was a site numbering issue. The old server  had IIS admin site deleted
Accordingd to MS you cannot use a metadata backup  from one server to restore  on
another server.
Even if you rebuild a server you cannot use a metadata  restore.
