Move 2003 SharePoint Site to MOSS 2007

Asked By: Anthony    Date: Dec 09    Category: MOSS    Views: 776

I have a 2003 site that the guy wants moved to a MOSS 2007 Server. Outside
of upgrading the 2003 SPS server to moss is there anyway to just move this site?

Does this question make sense?

I don't believe there is a way to just move  the site  from 2003 to 2007. The
schema is different between the two versions, which requires the upgrade to
perform the translation. there are utilities available for assisting with
the migration, or you can utilize the upgrade tools that Microsoft provides.
I have used both for different situations, but the end result was about the
same. Just remember to make a good back up incase of any issues.

I would try metalogix migration manger............

Cheap way is to upgrade and then backup/restore it over to the new one.

Quest and AvePoint tools do this effortlessly and well, but you have to license
them. Metalogix would also do it, but I'm not sure about a full fidelity
migration with Metalogix (haven't used it in a while).

It's a lot more work but have you looked at just migrating to 2010?

we did a lot of migrations from 2003-2007. If there are none (or little)
customizations, you can easely migrate by running 2003 upgrade prep tool
(find it on MS), this will not harm you DB,s but make backup anyway. Then
detach, copy and attach the db on the 'new' sql instance (or backup
restore). The create a new site  collection with temp DB, the delete this
content db and use stsadm to addcontentdb (because upgrading sometimes take
to long)...

Be sure of correct language packs.

We did this a couple of times and this is a proven way of migration. If you
have to many customizations, you might want to look at third party tools,
but the cost alot and do not alwat migrate but merely copy the items from
one place to another...
