MOSS2007 Scopes Items Display 0 in SSP and correctly in Site Settings

I have three shared scopes set up in my SSP.

Scope A: Using Content Source A, full crawl Sat 5 PM, incremental M-F
every 30 minutes 7AM - 5PM, incremental crawl takes 3 minutes.

Scope B: Using Content Source B, full crawl Sat 6 PM, incremental M-F
3 AM, incremental crawl takes 49 min.

Scope C: Using Content Source C, full crawl Sat 7 PM, incremental M-F
4 AM, incremental crawl takes 4 min.

Crawls are working fine, crawl logs show few errors, search results
look ok.

However, on the 'view scopes' page of the SSP, scopes B and C show 0
items (Update Status shows 'ready'). Scope A shows the number of
items correctly.

I have one portal site using these shared scopes. On the site
settings > scopes page for the site, all three scopes show the number
of items. The number of items for Scope A matches that on the SSP
view scopes page.

Why would the number of items show 0 on the SSP scope page?

In the SSP 'Configure search Settings', the following items
display 'Retrieiving...':

- crawl Settings: Indexing Status
- Crawl Settings: items in index
- Crawl Settings: Errors in log
- Crawl Settings: Propagation status
- Scopes: update status
- Scopes: Next scheduled update
- Scopes needing update

I've tried rescheduling the crawls. I can modify the full crawls
(I've set the schedules to 'none'), but changing the incremental
crawls does not 'stick' - it reverts back to the current settings.

Does anyone have any idea what would cause this and/or how to correct
it?
