MOSS07- IE7 prompts 3 times and gives blank page, Firefox works fine

Asked By: Loren Morse         Date: Aug 17, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 875

Infrastructure: Single server installation: 2008 Server, SQL 2008 Std, MOSS
2007 SP1 Current Patching, IE7, NTLM Authentication. IPv6 is disabled on the
server.

The farm was built with install script and has performed as it should until late
last week when it started the old prompt three times for credentials thing and
then loaded a blank page. There are no errors shown in any logs, and I get no
IE error page. The 12 hive is intact, and I have done a repair install and
rerun of the config wizard to elliminate any possible admin errors in the file
system.

When I use Firefox, everything works just fine. Has anyone else seen this?

Yep. Check your Internet Explorer settings. Make sure your website is in trusted
sites, and you have Automatic logon with user name and password selected.

You may also check this KB article -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926642. I don't know if it applies to
Server 2008, and how Firefox is affected by it, but the prompting 3
times is a similar symptom to what I've experienced after installing
some updates.

Are you hitting this locally (from the server  itself)?

Just out of curiosity, does your hostname contain underscores(we got
tagged on this one)?
