MOSS Restore to Different Server SSP Problem

Asked By: Eddy    Date: Dec 03    Category: MOSS    Views: 1557

I've build a Virtual PC running SQL Server 2005 Windows Server 2003
with local Domain-Controller and MOSS 2007. I have been trying to
restore our live MOSS farm environment to this VPC.

The backup was done using Central Admin, then I copied the files over
so I could perform a restore. I found that using Central Admin new
farm restore to be much easier than stsadm when entering new SQL
Server names and DB file locations.

The restore went well and it also created the SSP but it does not seem
to have worked, not sure about MySites, but I do not think they have
worked either.

I could only get round the problem by recreating the SSP from scratch
and deleting the one created by restore. Everything else worked fine
except that I need to reassign the access rights to different parts of
the site because of different DC.

Is that the recommended approach or is there a better way?

Central Administration backup is meant for disaster recovery to the same
AD environment. A variety of problems are known to occur if the AD is
not a perfect match, and it sounds like you've hit most of them. ;)
