MOSS Extranet, Logon, and IIS 500 Errors

Asked By: Emanuel Munoz         Date: May 27, 2008      Category: MOSS      Views: 212

I've upgraded our extranet to MOSS from SPS 2003.

All of the domain users, both from domain member PCs and from home using
basic authentication, can logon just fine.

There is one group of people who are restricted to only logging onto the
MOSS sever in AD (outside contractors), and they are having difficulty
logging on.

They seem to type in the UID and password without issue, but then they
get "An internal server error has occurred," which I think is an IIS 500
error.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this issue?

Ok, so I've been able to figure out part of the issue:

If you have logon  restrictions with Windows Integrated Authentication,
falling back to Basic/SSL, for some reason any attempt to setup
restrictions to the MOSS server only will allow the users to logon - but
not access the web server.

I resorted to placing the restrictions into out GPOs, which seems to
have worked.
