MOSS: Edit Upgraded Portal Site Page Settings Error

We have upgraded our 2003 portal to MOSS. I noticed that when I tried
to use "Page Settings" option on the upgraded portal site page, I
would receive an error as following:

Value does not fall within the expected range.

However, when I reset definition of these portal sites, I could choose
the page type I liked to use (Welcome page with web part zones, for
example).

Any idea what's the meaning of this error message?
