MOSS document conversion services

Asked By: Angie    Date: Jul 17    Category: MOSS    Views: 1136

I am hoping to get information about other folks' experiences in using the MOSS
document conversion services. My specific project might involve saving a
SharePoint wiki page to PDF.

Does anyone else have experience trying to convert SharePoint wiki pages to
another format using MOSS document conversion? If so, were your results
satisfactory?

Is there a better approach than this?

I was under the impression that MOSS document  conversion was mainly for
taking existing Office documents and converting them to HTML. Since a
SharePoint page  is already in HTML format, I'm not sure how helpful this
would be.
You would probably need to integrate a third-party application for
writing PDF files, though there is an Office add-on (

that might work if you have Word installed on the server.

Out of the box Peter is correct, but there is an API for the conversion
service that you (or 2rd app developers) can use to create additional
converters. msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms518493.aspx

Or, if you have the funds, there are some third parties out there. I found this
one for converting to PDF(s). see:

MOSS document  conversion CAN be used to convert  from any format  to any format by
creating a new document converter program and loading it in. Out of the box all
the document converters convert from an office file format to HTML. But you can
use the service to drive any document converter you care to write. You would
however have to create a custom document converter and install it into the
system using a Feature to make it available in SharePoint.
