Moss Database

Asked By: Nilay    Date: Apr 24    Category: MOSS    Views: 575

I'm in the process of setting up our MOSS Production server and I'm at
the point in the Config Wizard where I need to "Specify Database
Access Account". I'm not 100% sure which account to use here so I
wanted to bounce this off all of you. I didn't really worry about
this in my test environment so I'm now dealing with it.

Should/can this account be the same domain account we use to run the
SQL Services on our cluster (which is where the MOSS databases will
reside)? Or, should this be a separate account for the purposes of
just accessing the MOSS databases? Can it be one of the service
accounts I use for the other MOSS services?

I currently use 2: moss and mosscontent

Should I have additional ones?

Please, any prompt insight would be greatly appreciated.

I believe it only needs to be an account  that has permissions to the SQL
databases that your MOSS content is in. I can't remember the permissions it
needs off the top of my head.

You can use the existing account. I don't think you need to create new
accounts.

ok, I will use the service account  we use to run  all of our SQL Services.

I just wanted to be sure.

As long as the account  you specify has access DBO access then you
should be fine. Remember that when you get to setting  up shared
services that you should use a separate  account to run  shared
services.

That account  should have DB Creator and Security Admin rights in SQL and
be a member of local administrators on all members of the farm.
