MOSS 2007, unable to configure farm

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Jun 10    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 927

was able to install MOSS 2007, all tasks 9 of 9. But I'm not able to configure the farm.
I followed the instructions from Bill English's blog mindsharpblogs.com/.../1153.aspx

After starting the search service, I went to Application tab in CA, clicked "Create or Extend a Web Application" then clicked "Create a New Web Application", then made the configuration as mentioned in the post.
I gave exactly the same setting, Description "Portal" Port 80, Host Header "Portal" as shown in the Figure 14.
Then I went back into CA selected the Create or Configure Core Farm Services, then selected New SSP (Figure 15) and then filled in the configuration information for the new SSP.

On figure 16, I selected http://portal as my "Web application" gave the title etc., followed the instructions and after saying OK got an Error message
"Another site already exists at http://portal. Delete this site before attempting to create a new site with the same URL, choose a new URL, or create a new inclusion at the path you originally specified ."
If I browse to http://portal SharePoint creates "My Site" of administrator.

What setting should I put in New Shared Services Provider" page under "My Site Location" for "Relative URL" text box.

Am I missing some steps not mentioned in the post. I have tried many times by removing SharePoint Server 2007 and deleting databases and re-doing it. Please advice.

Go in and delete the root site collection at the web site, then try to re-create the corporate intranet site.

Let me check my post, but what I hoped to communicate was that you needed to first create a SSP, then create a portal in a different web application.

I'll try again today and let you know how it goes.

I tried last night but couldn't create a site collection on MOSS 2007. Do you by chance have a recording/movie on installing MOSS and creating a site collection in Mindsharp premium content?

Not yet. I’ve been heads down just trying (and mostly missing) my chapter due dates for my book.
