MOSS 2007 support "live updates" to Excel documents

Asked By: Stella    Date: Jun 15    Category: MOSS    Views: 1645

My apologies for asking what's probably a very elementary question about MOSS
2007. But one thing my department needs is a way for multiple users to access a
"live" Excel document. Can MOSS allow a user to open a spreadsheet, update it
and then save it back to MOSS? Or do they have to re-save the document to their
computer, delete the old version and re-load the updated version?

One of the primary capabilities of SharePoint is the ability to open, edit, and
then save documents, in this case Excel spreadsheets, directly to document
libraries. So yes a user can open an Excel spreadsheet and save it directly
back to SharePoint. this can be done with several versions of Excel, but you
will have the best level of integration if you use Excel 2007. The one thing you
won't be able to do is have two users editing the same spreadsheet at the same
time, but that's a limitation of Excel not SharePoint.
